Obiettivi formativi
L'insegnamento si propone di fornire un approfondimento delle conoscenze riguardo allo sviluppo della lingua letteraria greca dall’età arcaica all’atticismo, con particolare attenzione al rapporto fra atticismo e koinè nel II sec. d.C. e di affinare le capacità di traduzione e di commento (linguaggio, stile) dei testi greci in prosa e poesia.
Nello specifico, l'insegnamento offre le opportune conoscenze e competenze metodologiche per leggere e interpretare criticamente testi esemplari della letteratura greca, inquadrando le opere nello sviluppo diacronico della lingua, nel loro contesto storico-culturale e nella loro appartenenza ai generi letterari, applicando, a ciascuno dei testi presi in esame, l'adeguata metodologia analitica di tipo linguistico e stilistico, impiegando gli strumenti bibliografici (dizionari, manuali di storia della lingua, saggi critici) utili per la traduzione e il commento linguistico, e presentando i risultati dello studio con padronanza espositiva e terminologia tecnica.
The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of the development of the Greek literary language from the archaic age to Atticism, with a special focus on the relationship between Atticism and Koine in the 2nd century A.D. and to refine translation and commentary skills (language, style) of Greek texts in prose and poetry.
Specifically, the course offers the appropriate knowledge and methodological skills to critically read and interpret exemplary texts of Greek literature, framing the works in the diachronic development of the language, in their historical-cultural context and in their belonging to literary genres, applying, to each of the texts examined the appropriate analytical methodology of linguistic and stylistic type, employing the bibliographical tools (dictionaries, language history manuals, grammars, encyclopaedias, databases available online) useful for translation and linguistic commentary, and presenting the results of the study with expository mastery and technical terminology.

Al termine dell'insegnamento si dovrà dimostrare di:
saper tradurre e analizzare, sul piano linguistico e stilistico, i testi presentati a lezione, inquadrandoli nell'evoluzione diacronica della lingua greca, nel loro contesto storico-culturale e nella loro appartenenza ai generi letterari; essere in grado di applicare la metodologia appresa ad altri testi analoghi a quelli esaminati a lezione, svolgendo durante le lezioni un lavoro individuale di traduzione, analisi linguistica e interpretazione critica su passi selezionati; saper esporre oralmente i risultati dello studio con efficacia e corretta terminologia tecnica; aver elaborato la capacità di realizzare approfondimenti personali sull’evoluzione della lingua greca dall’età classica all’età imperiale, sviluppando le conoscenze e competenze acquisite e impiegando gli strumenti bibliografici (dizionari, manuali di storia della lingua, saggi critici) illustrati durante l'insegnamento.
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate that he/she is able:
to translate and analyse, on a linguistic and stylistic level, the texts presented in class, setting them in the diachronic evolution of the Greek language, in their historical-cultural context and in their belonging to literary genres; to apply the methodology learnt to other texts similar to those examined in class, carrying out individual work of translation, linguistic analysis and critical interpretation on selected passages during class. He/She must demonstrate the ability to present the results of the study orally with effectiveness and correct technical terminology; to have developed the ability to carry out personal in-depth studies on the evolution of the Greek language from the Classical to the Imperial age, developing the knowledge and skills acquired and using the bibliographical tools (dictionaries, language history manuals, critical essays) illustrated during the course.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Conoscenze e capacità previste saranno verificate attraverso un colloquio orale, che prevede almeno due domande sull'evoluzione diacronica e le caratteristiche del greco dall’età classica al II sec. d.C. (con particolare attenzione a morfologia, sintassi, pragmatica), con lettura, traduzione, commento linguistico e contestualizzazione storica e letteraria dei testi analizzati a lezione.
La preparazione sarà considerata adeguata (con votazione espressa in trentesimi) se si dimostrerà conoscenza degli argomenti e dei testi trattati a lezione; capacità di tradurre e commentare, sul piano linguistico e stilistico, i testi oggetto di analisi; capacità di esporre in modo accurato e approfondito i contenuti appresi, con padronanza terminologica e tecnica; capacità di rielaborare in modo articolato e con logica personale i contenuti dell'insegnamento; capacità di applicare, con autonomia di giudizio, le conoscenze e metodologie acquisite.
I testi oggetto di analisi e gli ulteriori materiali di studio saranno resi disponibili – all'inizio del modulo e durante lo svolgimento delle lezioni – sulla pagina-web dell’insegnamento. L’elenco completo dei testi esaminati a lezione e da portare all’esame sarà pubblicato sulla pagina dell’insegnamento al termine delle lezioni.
The expected knowledge and skills will be tested through an oral interview, which will include at least two questions on the diachronic evolution and characteristics of Greek from the Classical age to the 2nd century AD (with particular attention to morphology, syntax, pragmatics), with reading, translation, linguistic commentary and historical and literary contextualisation of the texts analysed in the lecture.
The preparation will be considered adequate (with a grade expressed in thirtieths) if knowledge of the topics and texts covered in class is demonstrated; ability to translate and comment, linguistically and stylistically, on the texts being analysed; ability to expound accurately and in depth the contents learned, with mastery of terminology and technique; ability to rework the contents of the teaching in an articulate manner and with personal logic; ability to apply the acquired knowledge and methodologies with independent judgement. The texts examined and further study materials will be made available - at the beginning of the module and during the course of the lectures - on the teaching webpage. Il Sogno di Luciano (e i suoi molteplici modelli)
Ritornato, dopo aver raggiunto il successo, nella sua patria Samosata, Luciano racconta al suo pubblico come sia avvenuta la sua ‘scelta di vita’, la sua ‘investitura poetica’. Nella narrazione del sogno fatto da un Luciano adolescente al bivio tra Scultura e Cultura e le loro differenti promesse, si intrecciano numerosi modelli classici – a partire da Eracle al bivio tra Arete e Kakia - e diversi livelli di lettura che portano a interrogarsi sul reale significato del sogno stesso nell’arte di Luciano.
Nel modulo, che avrà impostazione seminariale e che comporta quindi la partecipazione attiva di studentesse e studenti, a partire dalla lettura e dall’analisi linguistica del Sogno di Luciano e di passi scelti dei suoi modelli ‘classici’, tratti da generi letterari diversi, sia in prosa sia in versi, si affronteranno problemi di traduzione e procedimenti utili a commentare testi greci per gli aspetti della lingua e dello stile; si osserveranno inoltre i caratteri generali dell’atticismo e della koinè nel I-II sec. d.C.: fonetica, morfologia, sintassi, lessico, con particolare riguardo alla sintassi dei casi nel greco classico e nell’atticismo. I testi greci saranno messi a disposizione sulla pagina web dell’insegnamento.
Chi non potesse frequentare è pregato di prendere contatto con la docente; il programma per chi non frequenta potrà essere o del tutto simile a quello per chi frequenta, con alcune letture critiche che sostituiscano il lavoro svolto in aula sui testi, o anche concordato su altri argomenti in presenza di eventuali interessi specifici.
Lucian's Dream (and its many models)
Having returned, after achieving success, to his homeland Samosata, Luciano tells his audience how his 'choice of life', his 'poetic investiture', came about. In the narration of the dream made by an adolescent Lucian at the crossroads between Sculpture and Culture and their different promises, numerous classical models - starting with Heracles at the crossroads between Arete and Kakia - are interwoven, as well as different levels of interpretation that lead one to question the real meaning of the dream itself in Lucian's art.
In the course, which will have a seminar format and will therefore involve the active participation of students, starting with the reading and linguistic analysis of Lucian's Dream and selected passages from his 'classical' models, taken from different literary genres, both in prose and verse, we will tackle problems of translation and procedures useful for commenting on Greek texts in terms of language and style.
The course will also deal with the general features of Atticism and the Koine in the 1st-2nd century AD: phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicon, with special emphasis on case syntax in Classical Greek and Atticism. The Greek texts will be made available on the teaching webpage.
Those who are unable to attend are asked to contact the lecturer; the programme for those who do not attend may be either entirely similar to that for those who do attend, with some critical readings to replace the work done in the classroom on the texts, or also agreed on other topics in the presence of any specific interests.
