Obiettivi formativi

  • Sviluppare abilità di lettura e analisi linguistica e filologica di un testo letterario siriaco (aramaico) preservato in varie versioni manoscritte.
  • Approfondire la conoscenza della cultura siriaca (percorso culturale) o di tratti morfo-sintattici caratteristici del siriaco (percorso linguistico).

Programma

  1. Introduzione allo studio del siriaco classico: 1.1. distribuzione geografica e storica delle lingue semitiche; 1.2. il siriaco nel complesso aramaico; 1.3. perché studiare il siriaco; 1.4. cenni di storia del cristianesimo siriaco.
  2. Il Libro di Khamis bar Qardahe: 2.1. la letteratura siriaca orientale tarda; 2.2. struttura e storia della trasmissione; 2.3. l’omelia metrica Sull’alfabeto.
  3. Analisi linguistica del testo Sull’alfabeto: 3.1. l’alfabeto siriaco orientale; 3.2. pronomi indipendenti e suffissi, congiunzioni subordinative; 3.3. stati del nome; 3.4. coniugazione del verbo forte e sistema verbale.
  4. Analisi filologica del testo; 4.1. osservazioni generali sulla critica del testo; 4.2. costruzione di un apparato critico a partire dalle versioni disponibili dell’omelia metrica Sull’alfabeto.

Gli studenti iscritti ai Corsi di laurea specialistica ai sensi del precedente D.M. 509/1999, potranno acquisire i 5 cfu previsti dal loro piano carriera senza portare all'esame i testi letti e analizzati nelle ultime 6 ore di lezione. Gli studenti il cui corso di laurea prevede l'acquisizione di 9 cfu, dovranno preparare per l'esame entrambi i percorsi previsti al n. 4 dei testi consigliati, uno in forma orale e l'altro in forma scritta.

  1. Introduction to Classical Syriac: 1.1. the historical and geographical distribution of Semitic languages; 1.2. the place of Classical Syriac among the Aramaic dialects; 1.3. Why study Syriac?; 1.4. a survey of the Syriac Churches and their history.
  2. The Book of Khamis bar Qardahe: 2.1. late East-Syriac literature; 2.2. structure and history of transmission; 2.3. the metrical homily On the Letters of the Alphabet.
  3. Linguistic analysis: 3.1. East-Syriac script; 3.2. pronominal system and subordinative conjunctions; 3.3. nominal morpho-syntax; 3.4. verbal system and conjugation of strong trilitteral verbs
  4. Text-critical analysis: 4.1. general remarks on textual criticism; 4.2. construction of a critical apparatus for the metrical homily On the Letters of the Alphabet.

Postgraduate students who are enrolled according to the D.M. 509/1999 and have to get only 5 credits, will not be required to read and analyze the texts read in the last 6 hours of class. Students who have to get 9 cfu will prepare both "cultural readings" and "liguistic readings" as specified under n. 4 of "Testi consigliati e bibliografia", one in oral and the other in written form (a paper of 7-15 pages to be given in a week before the exam).
