Programma
Lo studio delle migrazioni in una prospettiva di lungo periodo (tra età preindustriale e mondo contemporaneo). Sociologi e storici a confronto.
Il corso, che verrà svolto in forma seminariale, prevede la lettura e la discussione di alcune monografie, riguardanti contesti migratori del passato preindustriale e dei nostri giorni. Verranno in particolare accostati testi di storici e sociologi per dimostrare l’utilità di una prospettiva interdisciplinare e di lungo periodo nello studio del fenomeno migratorio.

The study of migrations past and present -- from preindustrial times to the modern era – involves both sociological and historical research.
In a seminar setting, participants will read and discuss landmark monographs investigating the social, cultural and economic contexts of migrations both from our preindustrial past and in modern times. Emphasis will be given to the mutual enrichment afforded by historical and sociological approaches in terms of a long view of migration history and the interdisciplinary understanding of its underlying processes.
Students will be graded on a final written research assignment.
