Goethe and music

In view of Goethe’s often expressed convictions about the close bond between lyric poetry and  music,  this course examines a selection of Goethe’s Lieder and the interest they have exercised on composer, with particular attention to the textual construction of, and relations between, love and death. We will focus specifically on Mignon’s and the Harpist’s  songs from Wilhelm Meister.
