Obiettivi formativi
The aim of the course is to consolidate, broaden and deepen the knowledge and skills acquired in the first module, and it likewise adopts a practical approach based on the concrete study of a series of papyri. The ability to observe and describe phenomena relating to the texts, employing the appropriate technical terminology, as well as competence in analysing primary sources and evalutating contrasting interpretations of them will be practised.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
On completion of the course, students must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the main topics, problems and methods of papyrology and be able to present, date, decipher, translate and comment on the texts examined in class. They will also show competence in describing the particular phenomena relating to these texts, in the explanation and assessment of contrasting interpretations of them and in the use of the technical terminology of the field. Some importance will inevitably be attached to the ability to insert the sources analysed in a broader cultural and historical context, above all that of Greco-Roman Egypt, and to apply the methods acquired to other texts similar to the ones examined during the course.

Assessment is by a final oral examination, which consists of a general question concerning the content of the textbook, a more technical question on a specific aspect of the subject and a test in reading, translating and commenting on a text discussed in class using a printed image provided for this purpose by the instructor. It is expected that candidates are able to present the contents of the lectures accurately, build upon them to a certain extent and employ technical terms correctly. Grades are on a scale of thirty.
